Display - Sony Stepping out of PDP TV Market in Spring '05

Sony announced on Monday its decision to withdraw from the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) TV market in spring of 2005, at the earliest. Resources devoted to PDP TVs will be redirected towards the company's LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV business.
Production activities at Sony's PDP TV production facilities in
Ichinomiya Japan, Barcelona Spain, Wuxi China, and Pittsburgh US are slated to gradually come to an end. In replacement of PDP TVs, production lines at these four facilities will switch to outputting rear projection TVs in addition to LCD TVs.
Sony hopes the move will make its LCD TV offerings more price competitive.
